Well, if you take some time to get to know me, you'll probably discover that your first impressions were a little off, and that realization might just make you smile. It's happened before.

The people who know me best know that I embrace a lot of contradictions--mild-mannered English teacher with tattoos and a penchant for opera and NASCAR. I like what I like--no apologies.

I'm pretty earnest, which appears to be tantamount to mortal sin these days, but I'm also passionate about all my pursuits, including my work (teaching). Pretty dry sense of humor and no stranger to sarcasm. Being compassionate and a bit of a geek about what I like also comes with the territory.

I like to do nice things for people I care about like giving backrubs or my undivided attention, making dinner, running errands when they're sick, or buying flowers when they're blue.

I try to be honest with people and with myself, to clean up my own messes, and to make a mess at least once a week. I like mischief. I love to laugh with my friends until my face hurts. And then it's good to enjoy the quiet moments too.

Looking for someone responsible but not uptight, honest without being brutal, bookish but not encyclopedic, reasonably self aware with direction and a sense of purpose, HUMOR and perspective.

Someone who will show up on my doorstep not with flowers (though I do like those, too) but with a slightly battered book, interesting stone, or cute plastic Godzilla figurine that he saw and just knew he had to pick up for me.

Someone open to being cared for and about and returning the favor. Someone who deeply enjoys life, has at least one true passion, and can still feel a sense of awe.

Who communicates his desires, needs, likes, and dislikes honestly, if not readily.
